BRIAN LITTLE was delighted with his side's response after surviving a tricky opening period at Salisbury.
Wrexham fell behind after just ten minutes against leaders Salisbury, who had won their previous four matches, and were struggling to cope with the home side's high tempo start.

But Shaun Whalley put Wrexham back on level terms two minutes before the break with a brilliant curling strike, and the Reds netted three more in the second half to record a first away win of their Blue Square Premier season.

Jefferson Louis grabbed two goals, the first of which took a huge deflection off Darrell Clarke, to take his tally to the season to five, and Whalley got the fourth in injury time.

And Little was pleased with how the Reds hauled themselves back into the game.

"The last 15 minutes of the first half we were really getting to grips with stuff. We just had to tidy up on some of our passing," said Little today.

!In the end we played to the way we wanted to play. We said we needed to get round the sides of their centre-backs a few more times than we did and we managed to do that better.

"It was a good solid second half performance against a side who have had some good results in recent games so we are very pleased."

Little was confident at the break that Wrexham could go on and pick up all three points.

"At half-time we believed we could win the game," said Little. "We said if we turned the centre-backs a little bit more, if we were a little bit more careful with our ball in the final third, we felt we could score goals and that worked for us.

"There was no negativity at half-time. We wanted to get something out of the game. We did not want to step back and let them come at us. We wanted to go at them and I felt we did that."

Little praised Salisbury for their blistering start and was not surprised the Whites began to tire in the second period.

"For the first 20 minutes we almost got swept off the park and I am not surprised they are tired after that to be honest," said Little.

"They were flying and their energy levels in the early part of the game was enough to have possibly got them two goals.

"The first 20 minutes just hit us and took us by surprise. They were direct and caused us a lot of problems. But we hung in there and gradually began to get more control of the game.

"And by the time we got to half-time and managed to get back on level terms, we felt we just needed to keep that tempo up and it would give us a chance.

"That first 20 minutes really frightened us a bit but we regrouped and won the game great in the end."

Wrexham had drawn two and lost one of their previous three away games but Little felt it was only a matter of time before his side recorded that first victory on their travels: "It is good to win, that is the most important thing, and it will hopefully help settle everybody down," he added.

"We said before we came here we could not get concerned about our results away from home.

"Even on Monday against Altrincham when we did not play very well we felt we should have won, and we felt we should have won at Rushden so we knew it would come.

"I am delighted for them. It is a long way and we have not had the best of fortunes on the road for a while but we felt this was going to come.

"Today is a massive bonus because of their position in the league.

"I have no worries about playing away from home. We just have to tidy up in the final third and that is something we have not done in the last few games.

"Today we were tidier in the final third – but we can still get better. And we have got people who can score goals."

Little was disappointed to see Nat Brown limp off after just eight minutes at Salisbury.

Brown returned to the side in the centre of midfield after missing the previous three matches but a recurrence of a groin strain cut short his comeback.

Brown, who began the season in the centre of defence, was taken off early to prevent the injury worsening with Little thinking about his defensive options for Saturday's trip to highflying Cambridge United.

Steve Evans will be absent at Cambridge United as he is on international duty with Wales.
