Saunders wants a repeat performance

DEAN SAUNDERS' message is simple ahead of his first game in charge of Wrexham at The Racecourse – more of the same please.
Wrexham go into tonight's match against York City on the back of a 3-2 victory at Forest Green Rovers where the Reds twice came from behind to secure maximum points thanks to Jefferson Louis' injury time goal.
And although he was not getting too carried away after starting his reign as Wrexham manager with a win, Saunders wants to see the same effort and determination from his players for the visit of York.
"The reaction I have got has been great and they all seem to be itching to play," said Saunders today.
"But one swallow does not make a summer and I want it again. I want the same determination.
"Obviously we have got to improve on some of the defensive things we did and I know I will have a chance to work with the players on things we can resolve.
"I am not asking the players here to do things they are not capable of.
"They have all got legs, a heart and lungs, so they should be able to fight.
"It is no different to players who are playing in World Cup qualifiers at the weekend, it is mental and you have got to have determination.
"We are not going to win every game, but I will be trying to win every game."
Saunders, who brought his players in for training on Sunday, insisted that Wrexham have not achieved anything yet and said no-one can rest on their laurels.
"I have to get across what I want," said Saunders.
"Just because we won doesn't mean we can do down tools.
"We have not done enough yet.
"Everyone who wants to come with me, I can forgive them for misplaced passes or missed headers if you know you are getting their best, and they will stick with you."
Saunders endeared himself to supporters with his fist clenching reaction following the final whistle at Forest Green.
And although he knows there is a long way to go, he has pledged to keep doing his best to improve Wrexham's position.
"Everyone has been great and I see it as a positive move for me," said Saunders.
"I would not have dropped into this league for anybody, I only came because it was Wrexham.
"I know I am taking a risk but whatever happens, I will be able to look in the mirror and say I tried my best to get Wrexham as high as I could.
"I guarantee to supporters I will try to do that and hopefully with my knowledge, I will be able to improve the players."
Saunders, who had only taken charge of a few training sessions prior to Saturday's match, had all the fit players who did not make the squad travel to Forest Green on Saturday.
Having hinted at changes tonight, Saunders is hoping the players who miss out continue to shown the same commitment as those playing.
"I could have picked any 11 but they got in first," said Saunders.
"Some will stay in the team because of what we did on Saturday.
"They can take confidence from that, but others have to be around and listen to players in their position so they know what is going on.
"And they have to play with the same fighting spirit."
Saunders was considering adding to his squad ahead of tonight's match but believes the chances of bringing in a new face was diminishing.
"I don't think so at this late stage," added Saunders, who has former Wrexham midfielder Dave Brammer training with the Reds.
Meanwhile, supporters are reminded that Wrexham are offering a special discount for supporters attending tonight's game.
Admission is £10 for adults, £5 for seniors and young persons (16-21), and children under 16 will be let in free. No advanced ticketing is required, just pay at the turnstiles.
