JEFFERSON LOUIS is determined for Wrexham to make amends for their poor performance at Altrincham when the Reds make the trip to leaders Salisbury City on Saturday.
Wrexham have failed to win any of their three Blue Square Premier matches this season, with a below-par Reds drawing 1-1 against Altrincham at Moss Lane in their last outing on Monday.

But Brian Little's side have got an immediate chance to improve their fortunes on the road when they go to surprise package Salisbury City, who have hit top spot after winning their last four matches.

And striker Louis said Wrexham have to repeat their home form - the Reds boast a 100 per cent record at The Racecourse - on their travels and try to record that first away win as soon as possible.

"There are high expectation levels at home but there are away too," said Louis today.

"I think we need to get an away win under our belt.

"It is down to us to show character and bounce back after Monday. We have still got that winning mentality."

"Collectively as a team, we need to go back to the drawing board and work hard.

"We've got to do the same things away as we do at home.

"Salisbury won't be easy, no team in the division will be.

"But we have got a strong team. It is a solid back four and players who aren't in the team are good enough to get in as it is a decent squad.

"We all have to be on it in every game and then we can do really well this season."

Wrexham fell behind to an early goal at Altrincham before Louis equalised before the break, but the Reds were unable to come up with a winner.

And although Wrexham did not take three points from a match they were widely expected to win, Louis was just pleased to have avoided defeat.

"It was disappointing not to win," said Louis.

"It was not the best all round performance but we can take some positives from the game.

"It was not a bad result. Everyone goes on about Altrincham being the whipping boys but they aren't, and we did not lose - that is the key."

Louis took his tally to three goals with the leveller at Altrincham but the much travelled frontman is not setting any targets for the season.

"Of course I was delighted to score but a bit peeved we did not win," said Louis.

"I had a few chances before it. One was blocked on the line and the keeper made a save, but I was persistent. I got another chance and put it away.

"I am happy with how it's gone for me so far, but it is not over yet. I just have to keep it going in front of goal.

"I don't set myself targets. I have done that before and you get tense if you miss chances.

"I just take it one game at a time."

Louis could have more goals to his name but he saw his penalty saved in Thursday's 2-0 home win against Oxford United, the second three point return in two outings at The Racecourse this term.

Although disappointed to have missed after regularly practicing penalties in training, Louis would not hesitate resuming spot kick duties if asked to do so by manager Brian Little.

"In training I have been practicing penalties but I was a bit too eager," added Little.

"That got me in trouble because I did not put the penalty where I normally would.

"I would still take the next penalty if the gaffer wanted me to.

"You have to show character and not be scared to take another because I've missed one.

"You should not be scared to take scoring chances as a striker otherwise you will miss them."

York City make the long trip to Torquay tonight aiming to go top of the Blue Square Premier League.

With no other teams in action, three points for City will see them join Cambridge and Salisbury on 12 points.
