CRICKET - Impressive display all-round from Tattenhall
TATTENHALL followed their fantastic win at Irby with an impressive display at home to Burnage with Danny Ahmad (60) and Ben Cooke (36) enjoying a stand of 60.
Cooke's innings was particularly impressive before playing on, and Ahmad continued to accumulate, finding form as he progressed.
Kettle (38) contributed to a stand of 61 with Ahmad, before both fell in quick succession. A big score looked to be on the cards, but Tattenhall's middle-order pushed too hard, too soon, leaving Richard Sadler and Alan Brock to ensure a score of 213.
Burnage scored six an over for the first 10 without losing a wicket.
But Trinidadian Damian Lewis then took three wickets in quick time.
First team debutant, Alan Brock took three wickets and Mel Dobson returned to claim the last recognised batsman, and Lewis put the effort in to clean up the tail and finish with fine figures of 6 for 54 from 15 overs to seal a 25 point victory.
Saughall won a nail-biting encounter in the final over against Ellesmere Port.
Port won the toss and slumped to 33 for 3, but recovered to post 177 for 9 off their 48 overs. Dipak Jena the star of the show for Saughall, claiming 5 for 69.
Saughall overcame the early dismissal of Martin Huxley (4) with James Huxley (31) and Mike Andrews (32) steadying the ship.
Chris Andrews smashed 15 from the 40th over before he was caught in the deep for 40, meaning 14 runs were needed from the final 12 balls.
James Martin was bowled for 27, so the match boiled down to the final over with five runs needed and two new batsmen at the crease. Jena lofted a three from the first ball but then three 'dot-balls' piled the pressure on as Saughall's players watched nervously on the sidelines.
However, Andy Thomas (5 not out) hit the winning runs from the penultimate ball to give Saughall victory.
Alvanley hit back to clinch victory in their Cheshire League match at Cholmondeley. But they were in trouble at 17 for 4 before Ben Pearce set about repairing the damage.
Mark Szymura, Chris Charles and Chris Fletcher all made double figures and together with Pearce's 31 they managed to push the score to three figures.
Guy Ford broke the league record for wicket-taking, posting staggering figures of 10 for 47 in 17 overs.
Cholmondley were just two runs short when Cooke was bowled, sparking a celebration among the Alvanley players and lifting them into fifth place.
Barrow used the pace of Phil Johnson and the off-spin of Phil Noble to restrict Winsford to 120-8, and were confident in reaching their target. With Marlon Barclay, 44, and contributions from Gareth Pawlett and Matt Hughes, Barrow won the game on 122-7.
Chester County Officers missed a golden opportunity to defeat League leaders Northwich after skittling the mid-Cheshire club for 149.
Spinner Mike Pownall was the pick of Officers' bowlers with 4-19 in eight overs, while Graham Wilks picked up two late wickets for 39, and Tony Hattersley took two stumpings and a catch.
Man of the match, Mike Pownall (51) took Officers to 70-2, before Ali Clark (12 n.o.) and Andy Barlow (6 n.o.) earned Officers extra draw points.
