CHESHIRE JETS under 16 boys team, (formerly Ellesmere Port Panthers), have finished third in an international tournament held at Brno, in the Czech Republic.
Their first game against Latvian team, Valmiera, was to prove critical in their final placing, and the Jets got off to the better start leading 19-16 at the end of the first quarter with some excellent work from Matthew Burton, (Neston High School) and Jason Helsby, (Helsby High School) who both chipped in with six early points.

The Latvians pegged back the deficit to trail 35-34 and it remained close with Jets trailing 45-44 at the end of the third quarter.

A very tense fourth quarter saw the Cheshire outfit trail 57-55 with three minutes to go in the game. A full court press to close the gap did not have the desired effect and the Jets lost the game 65-55.

Three more pool games followed, each producing big wins for the Jets – 82-37 against Polish team USK Jagalonka, 75-60 against Czech team BC Vysocina and 102-34 versus host club BBL Brno.

These results placed Cheshire Jets in second place in their pool and with no semi final play offs they were then in a 3rd/4th play off game against Sokol Hradec Kralove from The Czech Republic. The Jets ran out easy winners 90-46 with all 12 players gaining valuable court time and 11 of them getting on the score sheet.

Tournament points totals: Jason Helsby 88, Dave Thomas and Tom Halpin 47, Neil Gillard 39, Matthew Burton 37, Joe Franklin 36, Jack Griffiths 27, Pierre Bersier 24, Adam Jones 21, Dean Cooke 18, Jordan Smith 10 and Kyle Squire 7.
