ATHLETICS: Jez leads the way for Buckley

JEZ BROWN was the first of four Buckley Runners to complete the Sandstone Trail Race.
He finished the muddy, challenging 17.1 mile course in fifth position with a time of two hours four minutes 33 seconds.

Pete Roberts won the first over-60 award after finishing 44th overall in a time of two hours 29 minutes 37 seconds, ahead of Dawn Urquhart (55th in 2:36:12), and John Morris (74th in 2:43:42), as Buckley Runners finished fifth team overall.

Tattenhall Runners were also represented at the event, and Vince van Woerkam finished in second place with a time of 2:01:48). Pete Taylor (third in 2:01:53), and former race winner, Simon Ellis finished with a time of 2:05:24.

Steve Hammond finished 35th in 2:26:13, with Justin Realff 43rd in 2:29:07, and David York, 47th in 2:32:56.

Amanda Davies clocked 2:42:51 for 73rd place, and Kath Stott finished in 2:45:23 for 79th place.

Kit Ebden posted 2:46:15. Robin Blackham recorded 2:47:27, Rob Webster finished in 2:50:22, Martin Hilton clocked 3:11:35, and Andrew Gooda ran 3:14:14.

The B race featured Mark Hockedy in 34th place with 1:36:53, Kate Lightfoot in 1:41:52 for 53rd place.

Hadyn Johnson (96th in 1:52:33), Dave Carnelly (1:58:37), Kathy Frankland (1:58:13), and Hilary Murdoch (2:04:58).

Meanwhile, several Tattenhall Runners completed the Berlin Marathon.

Mark Smith was first home for Tattenhall, in 3:18:33, just ahead of Liz Crawshaw (3:19:35), and Alison Smith (3:20:30) who both clocked new personal bests.

Ally Grundy broke the four-hour barrier in 3:59:40.

Graham Innes capped a recent succession of new personal bests by achieving a time of 1:29:20 in the Congleton Half Marathon.
He was joined by Andy Blair who posted 1:34:59.
