ATHLETICS: Chester sprint into third spot

CHESTER TRI Club secured third position in the men's team event at the South Shropshire Sprint Triathlon in Ludlow.

Nick Rose headed the Chester club content home, completing the 400m swim, 26k bike, and 6.25k run in one hour 17 minutes four seconds.

He was supported by Graham Blair who finished third in the Super Veteran category with 1:26:18, ahead of Grant Watson who crossed the line in 1:30:16, with Alison Leavens 1:36:18, Ian Weaver 1:37:47, Brian Burnett 1:40:32 and Brenda Watson 2:11:11.

Chester Tri Club were also in action at the Sandstone Trail A Race, over a 17.1 miles course from Duckington to Delamere, involving 655m of climb.

Dave Taylor crossed the line first for Chester Tri in 2:37:25, followed by Dave Press (2:46:06), Simon Woodward (2:47:23), Janet Frost (2:49:48), Kathryn Chase (3:08:34), Janet Taylor (3:09:28), Matthew Kelly (3:39:21) and Philippa Kelly (3:39:23).

The 10.6 mile B Race from Beeston to Delamere saw Sophia Rees crossing the line in 1:38:39, followed by Nick Minion (1:48:04), and Nania Mason (2:01:13).
