ANGLING - Steve keeps his cool to land first prize

Steve Openshaw pellet wagged his way to another win with 62lb 10oz of carp at the Tuesday Open at the Lake of Tranquillity, writes MARTIN POWELL.
Les Picken maintained his run of form in second place with 42lb 12oz, leaving Dave Randles third with 31lb 12oz.

Thursday saw Alan Murray win the day with a level 51lb of carp. Alan fished the pellet waggler to good effect to win the day from Phil Barwell (44lb 4oz) and Frankie Dorran 44lb.

Sunday saw Fishery owner, Chris Openshaw win the day with 34lb 8oz off the Horseshoe. Ian Jones netted his way to second with 26lb 7oz leaving Colin Jones third with 19lb 6oz.

Connah's Quay were in action on the main lake where Alan Murray again won the day with 48lb 6oz of carp.

Phil Kirby was second with 24lb 8oz with Kevin Thornton third with 23lb.

Graham Davidson netted his way to a second win in a row off peg 40, in the Wednesday Sweepstake, with a bream and skimmer net taken on the pole to pellet to return 16lb 4oz.

Pete Evans took roach shallow to caster for second place with 10lb 4oz with Chris Ellis third placed with 9lb 5oz.

The Sunday Open saw Roger Millard take the money with a good mixed bag taken off the jetty, winning the day with 18lb 13oz. Brian Probert connected with barbel and chub for second with 16lb 9oz with Graham Davidson third with 16lb 8oz.

The Wednesday match at Offa's Dyke was won by Ray Haynes who connected with crucians and roach to the pole and pellet to net a 7lb 12oz bag.

Nigel Davies returned 7lb 6oz, for second with Tony Belcher in third with 6lb 3oz.

The Tuesday Rovers action was fished out on Hampton Springs on Rock Pool where Charlie Meyers won the3 match with carp taken shallow on the pellet to return 91lb 12oz. Kev Williams netted his way to second with 73lb 12oz, with Gary Vincent picking up third place with 47lb 8oz.

The Saturday Open at Hampton Springs was won by John Cheetham who took the weight of the week with his 91lb 12oz carp net. Martin Wedley was second with 44lb 12oz with Charlie Meyers in third place with 40lb 2oz.

Saltney Social's match was fished out on Hampton's Willow Pool where Lee Lloyd landed first prize with 45lb of carp and barbel. Cyril Knobbs was second with 38lb 8oz, leaving Brian Williams third with 36lb.

Airbus fished on Llyn Gwerydd where Mal Dawes took the coin with a skimmer based net for 19lb 4oz. Steve Norman was second with much of the same for 17lb, with Jason Rodgers in third place with 14lb 8oz.

Cheshire Police fished the Alan Morris Memorial Match on Hampton's Long Island, where Mark Greasley won the day with a carp-based 35lb 8oz.

Andy Smith netted his way to second place with 29lb 8oz, leaving Neil Jukes in third place with 28lb 8oz.

Kev Williams won the day at the Greyhound Wrexham Match, fished out on Milton Green's Match Lake. Kev returned 49lb 4oz to win the day. Martin Churchill was second with 35lb 9oz, with Steve Barwise in third with 27lb.

Dave Maddocks connected with carp to win the latest Rake and Pikel match fished out on Hampton's Long Island, returning 46lb 8oz. Roy Cowley was second with 27lb 8oz and Kevin Fishwick was third with 27lb.

Steve Beaumont took the coin at the Tarvin Sands Open with a mixed bag for 15lb 8oz. A tie for second place saw Rob Dickenson and Stan Wilkinson share the coin for third with 8lb 10oz.

Llyn Brenig: The rod average has dropped this week to 3.7per angler. The best bag of the week has gone to E Fairbrother of Malpas who had six fish for 17lb and the top flies were Boobies and Hoppers.
