CHESTER ROMANS suffered a defeat against Manchester Titans in their penultimate game of the season.
Several Romans players had by far their best performance of the season and meshed together well as a team.

In a tight first half no team really got the better of the other.

The Romans showed strong ground work from James Tootle, Dan Richmond an
d Quarterback Simon Gibson, and found themselves at the Titans 10 yard line, before fumbling the ball over to Manchester and wasting the opportunity.

The Romans were soon made to pay in the second quarter when Manchester mounted a drive from their own 15 yard line which saw them move the ball to the Roman five yard line, a play which ended in Romans' Jason Wilcock suffering concussion.

The delay didn't help the Romans defence and the very next play saw Manchester break the Roman defensive wall from five yards out, Tim Barton going in for the touchdown. Fullback William Wakatega ran in the two-point conversion and the Titans lead by eight points.

With little time on the clock the Romans had to move the ball quickly and their aerial assault took over with a 34 yard pass from QB Gibson to WR Glyn Chadwick followed by a 17 yard pass to Michael Wood. Running Back James Tootle then jinked into the end zone on the ground for a Romans touchdown to reduce their arrears to 8-6 at the break.

Dave Barnett ran straight through the middle of the Romans defence from four yards to extend the Titans lead to 16 -6.

The Titans then aired the ball out into the hands of a receiver who took the ball into the end zone and again added the two-point conversion to make it 22-6.

Simon Gibson finished with five completions for 99 yards, JP Flanagan had 48 yards receiving and defensive players Dave Goodall and Ali Bult had their best performances of the season alongside Barry Jones and Lee Rose.

Chester finish their season against Lancashire Wolverines at home on August 24.
