Starting at 1pm three races were held at Queensway Stadium – the mile, the three mile and the six mile – with participants being sponsored to raise money for the charity.

Wrexham council's dragon sports co-ordinator Chris Hughes said: "The majority were running the mile with lots of kids, women with prams, a woman with a baby strapped to her, three-legged racers and even people doing laps backwards.

"The serious runners did the longer races, timed themselves and legged it around as quickly as they could."

The event went smoothly thanks to volunteers from Wrexham Council's sport and fitness team, junior leaders from Ysgol Clywedog and members of Wrexham Athletics Team.

"It was a very good day," added Mr Hughes. "The weather was good, the rain kept off and the three races went well."

The Sport Relief appeal raised more than £20 million nationally for good causes.
