A LOCAL government boss from Chester who was awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours has been to Buckingham Palace to receive his award.
Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council chief executive Steve Maddox was awarded the OBE for Services to Local Government.

Mr Maddox, of Fairfield Road, Hoole, joined Wirral Council as a trainee solicitor in 1974 and became chief executive in 1998.

Each year, more than 2,500 people receive their award in person from The Queen or a member of the Royal Family.

Mr Madox said: "I am obviously delighted and honoured to have received my OBE.

"I'm proud that local government, and Wirral in particular, has been recognised in this way.

"It was a wonderful occasion and I was accompanied by my wife Jenn, one of my sons, Robby and my sister, Jill.

"I had the opportunity to speak to a number of other recipients, including Leslie Phillips CBE whose daughter, I discovered, works in one of Wirral's schools.

"It was also very pleasing to see how many other local government officers were being honoured in this way."
