A CHESTER blood donor has been honoured for donating an amazing 75 pints of blood.
Businessman Paul Hughes, based in the Great Boughton area of Chester, was recognised at a special presentation held by the National Blood Service at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Liverpool.

Mr Hughes, who works as corporate development manager for short term finance company, Bridging Finance Ltd, began donating blood in 1973 when he was dragged to a session by his bank manager. He has since gone on to donate a further 75 times.

He said: "I'm now encouraging my son to donate blood, it saves lives and takes only one hour out of every three months.

"I fully intend to continue donating and am looking forward to giving my 100th pint."

The awards were presented by Michelle Howard, who suffers from sickle cell anaemia and requires regular blood transfusions to enable her to lead a normal life.
