A Saltney man had a lucky escape from a house fire after he fell asleep while cooking.
Firefighters rescued the 25-year-old from an upstairs bedroom in a property off Boundary Lane, Saltney.

His mother alerted the emergency services after returning home and finding the fire. Red Watch manager Mike Perks said four appliances raced to the scene at last night.

"He had been drinking. He'd fallen asleep upstairs," said Mr Perks.

"The smoke alarm hadn't woken him up. That's the danger of cooking after having a drink. He had a little smoke inhalation and had a precautionary check at the scene."

Mr Perks added: "Do not leave cooking unattended, especially if you have had a few drinks."
