A Chester volunteer 'escaped' from prison and then had to find her way out of a secret location – all in the name of charity.
Dressed as a convict, Sue Chaloner, and her accomplice, Sue Cook, both of Brentwood Road, Blacon, were blindfolded after engineering their way out of HM Walton Prison in Liverpool.

Raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, the pair were transpor
ted to a secret location and then handcuffed together when they got there.
The next stage of the mission for the duo was to get back to the Picture House in Liverpool as fast as possible.

Sue, who recently won a Macmillan Gold Long Service award for 15 years of volunteering, said: "At first, we didn't know where we were.

"Then we heard someone say 'I have just seen Blackpool tower', which gave it away."

Sue and her friend managed to get a free bus ride into the centre of Blackpool before negotiating their way back to Liverpool on a train, all for free.

Sue said: "We weren't allowed to spend money and had to ask drivers to let us on.

"We didn't meet anyone who was rude all day and everyone was lovely."
The pair returned to the Picture House in four hours and 20 minutes and came joint fifth out of 28 couples.

They have raised £360 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Sue added: "I'll do it again. It was absolutely fantastic.

"I would like to thank John from Northop Hall for giving us a lift from Chester, the girls from M S Hairdressing Supplies Ltd on Sealand Road, KingKabs, the staff at the Egerton Arms and many others."
