A COMMUNITY childcare project has been drafted in to run out-of-hours clubs at two Chester primary schools.
Childcare services at the schools in Upton are reaping the benefits of policies developed at the successful Blacon Kids Community Club.

After-school and holiday care for children of Mill View Primary and of Westlea Primary schools in Upton has gon
e from strength to strength since Blacon Kids Community Club (KCC) staff became involved.

Headteachers and governors from each of the Upton schools approached a number of out-of-school care providers in Chester.

They were so impressed with the quality of service and care delivered by Blacon KCC that they commissioned the organisation to replicate its Office for Standards in Education-approved scheme in each of the two schools.

Eight new jobs have been created as a result.

Blacon KCC was launched almost eight years ago and offers before and after-school childcare for working families.

Its success has been enhanced by the launch of a new breakfast club, now catering for a number of primary schools across Chester district, which is now in its second year.

Tricia Jones, childcare manager for Blacon KCC, said: "The Kids Community Club is a real success story for the community of Blacon, families and now, fantastically, for children and the community of Upton.

"We are delighted to see real partnership cross-community working and to be setting the standard is fantastic."

- CHILDREN from Blacon Kids Community Club gathered together for a sponsored sleepover at their Dee Point premises to raise funds for new equipment for their scheme.

The sleepover was the second of its kind.

Children had enjoyed a sleepover last summer, where they raised £700 towards the cost of a memorial bench in memory of the late Joan Mackin.

She played a vital role in assisting the Blacon KCC and Blacon Community Trust where she gave her time as a volunteer.
