MORE than 600 women from around the region completed a 13-mile overnight walk to raise funds for the Countess of Chester Hospital.
The hospital's 2008 Moonlight Walk 2008 raised £65,000, and has been hailed a huge success by organisers.

Participants, wearing cowboy hats and colourful outfits, took around five hours to complete the walk around Chester, having started at midnig
ht.

They were joined by fancy-dress Roman soldiers, who presented each walker with a medal at the finishing line.

The Moonlight Walks have now raised around £265,000 for hospital appeals over the past three years.

Proceeds from this year's event will go towards 'Relative Comfort' – the hospital's new appeal which provides accommodation for relatives of patients on the Critical Care Unit.

Kate Taylor, fundraising manager at the Countess, said: "This event has raised more than a quarter of a million pounds over the last three years, and it was great to witness the ladies' ongoing commitment to the event.

"The money they helped to raise will be greatly used for the new appeal.

"As well as the walkers I'd also like to sincerely thank everyone who helped out with the walk, from St John's Ambulance to the caterers and all of the staff and volunteers who acted as marshals at various points along the 13-mile route."

To contribute to the 'Relative Comfort' appeal, or get involved with fundraising events at the hospital, go to www.coch.nhs.uk or call 01244 366672.
