AN ANNUAL football match held in memory of a Chester father and son has raised £1,100.
The six-a-side tournament was held to raise money for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd in memory of Dougie Evans and his son Daniel, who both lived in Blacon.
Dougie died of cancer and his son was killed in a car crash eight years ago.
The tournament, organised by friends and family of the pair was held at Cairns Crescent, Blacon, in June.
A boxing ring was also set up on the day and local boxer Andy Telford sparred for 40 rounds with eight amateur fighters from Vauxhall Motors Boxing Club, raising over £600 for the Backfor hospice which serves Chester, Ellesmere Port and Deeside.
Twenty-four teams took part in the football tournament, now in its third year, with victors Highfield Athletic beating Shannon FC in the final.
Ross Broadbent, of Blacon Avenue, who helped organise the event, said: "We want to thank Vauxhall Motors Boxing Club for their sponsorship.
"We would also like to thank everyone at Cairns Crescent for allowing us to use their facilities free of charge for the last three years.
"Every year it's been getting better and better."
