A CHESTER drinker swapped his favourite beer tipple for water for a month and helped raise £200 for the 'privilege'.
Funds are now on their way to Wateraid, the charity which works in 17 countries providing water, sanitation and hygiene education for some of the world's poorest people, thanks to Lawrence Philpot, of Lache, who has carried out his beer swap challenge for the last six years.
Lawrence, 60, carried out his latest challenge for the fourth time at his local, the Shropshire Arms in Northgate Street.
Lawrence was served a pint of water in place of his usual pint of Bombardier ale twice a week. For every pint of water he collected £1. For every £1 collected, publican Tom Hughes matched the amount.
Lawrence said: "This is something I have done for several years and it is a privilege to know we are helping the Wateraid charity.
"I managed to have a pint of water for every visit during February although this year it was a little harder as it was a leap year."
