THE family of a soldier killed in Afghanistan has handed over nearly £4,000, to help those injured in the line of duty.
Captain Sean Dolan of the 1st Battalion, the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters, died in the Sangin Valley, on June 30.

The 40-year-old, who lived at Archers Way, Great Sutton, with his wife Mitch and son Ashley, was on an operation with US and Afghan troops, observing Taliban fighters, when he was killed by a mortar round.

Keen footballer Ashley, 18, organised a match between local Chester City supporters’ team, Deva Chat FC, and Wolves supporters’ team, Molineux Mix in September as a tribute to his father, who was a Wolves fan.

The match, which was played at Willenhall Town FC in the West Midlands, where Capt Dolan had his roots, was won by Deva Chat FC 3-1.

Mitch and Ashley were invited onto the Wolves’ Molineux pitch at half-time in the match with Stoke last weekend and met members of Capt Dolan’s regiment, 1st Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters.

They handed over £2,320 to Selly Oak Military Hospital and another for £1,604 for military charity Help for Heroes.

In another fundraising effort in September last year, Capt Dolan’s sister, Michelle, raised £2,000 when she organised a charity evening at Birchley Sports and Social Club in Oldbury.

Michelle, mother Daphne and dad Brian, handed cash to the British Limbless Ex-Servicemen’s Association at Selly Oak Military Hospital, Birmingham.

The MoD described Capt Dolan as “undoubtedly regarded by all who had the honour of serving with him as the finest soldier of his generation”.

Ashley said: “My dad was always very supportive and was always there for us. Nobody ever thought anything was going to happen to him.”
