CHESTER CITY boss Simon Davies is aiming to see his team righting their wrongs.
The Blues entertain Wycombe Wanderers tomorrow at the Deva Stadium (3pm kick-off) after suffering back-to-back defeats against Dagenham and Redbridge (6-0) and Leeds United (5-2).

Davies is determined to see his side eradicating their expensive mistakes in defence and providing a platform to better times ahead.

He said: "It's important that we now start to get a few points on the board.

"Wycombe have drawn with Morecambe and they have lost heavily at home to Birmingham in the Carling Cup.

"They have had a similar start to us, but not such a frustrating start."

Davies admitted he was looking forward to plotting the downfall of a Wycombe side managed by former England caretaker boss, Peter Taylor.

He added: "Peter Taylor is a highly thought of manager with plenty of experience. I have a lot of respect and time for him, but at the end of the day it's all about Chester City tomorrow as far as I'm concerned.

"I was encouraged by our second half performance against Leeds in midweek. I thought we applied ourselves in a really good manner and showed a lot of character, so we're going to take a lot from that."

Central defender Paul Linwood is expected to start against Wycombe after recovering from his back injury, and both Paul Butler and Richie Partridge are likely to be included in the squad after suffering a few knocks on Tuesday night.

Davies revealed he had received information about Wycombe from Peterborough United boss, Darren Ferguson, who had faced Wycombe in a pre-season friendly.

He said: "I have got reports from the Morecambe match on Saturday and Darren Ferguson has sent me the DVD of Peterborough's pre-season friendly against Wycombe.

"So we've got enough material on Wycombe and we'll do our homework on them, but it's about our performance and we need to get some consistency into our game.

"In our game against Leeds at times we held our own, but then lapses in concentration and the quality of opposition against us saw us get punished.

"Our confidence has taken a pounding so we have to refrain from making the mistakes, be really positive, and go out and win some games."

Davies is hoping Wycombe will attempt to play football against Chester instead of adopting a direct approach like Dagenham that saw City's defence struggle.

He said: "We're hoping that Wycombe's play matches our own style so that we can play a football match - if it does that I feel we have a chance.
"Wycombe have a few big lads in their team that allows them to play a bit more direct if they choose, but they also have the likes of Gary Holt and Chris Zebroski who can get the ball down and play and they are major players, so we'll look at addressing that and stop their better players from playing.

"Wycombe also have Scott McGleish who scored 26 goals last season, so we know they have got a decent goalscorer in their team.

"But we didn't concede against Leeds in the second half on Tuesday night and I feel we can take a lot from that. We just got to be positive.

"It's been so frustrating for the team and for me to see us starting on the backfoot and conceding goals that aren't even in the coaching manual.

"But I can't condone the mistakes and the individual errors that we've been making. It's hard for a coach like me to accept because it's something we don't even do at training.

"Because we've conceded goals heavily in our last two games it's now important that we start well and create a base for us to go on and maybe nick something late on."
