RICHIE PARTRIDGE is keen to see the Blues rediscovering their good form.
The Chester City winger believes his club should be full of confidence ahead of Saturday's league trip to Chesterfield, despite back-to-back home defeats against Lincoln in the league and Morecambe in Tuesday night in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round after a penalty shoot-out.

He said: "Tuesday night was disappointing because it would have been nice to have gone on a good run in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

"A penalty shoot-out is a bit like a coin toss, but I thought our second half performance was promising. When we got the ball down and started playing we looked good.

"We should be going into Saturday's match at Chesterfield full of confidence and looking for the points."

Partridge admitted he was disappointed to be replaced by Ryan Lowe during the second half against Morecambe, and added: "Anyone is disappointed about being substituted like I was during the second half, but the manager wanted to change our shape and go with the three lads up front which worked to a certain extent.

"The nitty gritty stuff in the game had passed by the time I was replaced and we were starting to play attractive football.

"It was pleasing to see the team starting to kick-on, but it was also disappointing that I had to come off."

Partridge, who is hoping he can regain his starting place against Chesterfield at Saltergate, is determined to play his part in an unbeaten run for the Blues.

He said: "We're now hoping to build another good run of form. It's all well and good picking up points, but we want to start winning games and getting back on track.

"In this division especially, you're always going to get a little hiccup every now and again. I know it sounds obvious, but it's the team that is the most consistent that will push for a play-off place and get promoted.

"It is a case of getting on a run and, as long as we can do that we stand as good a chance as anyone."

But Partridge is expecting a tough test against Chesterfield: "Their manager has put a decent squad of players together. They've got Darren Currie and Jack Lester who I rate as talented players.

"I'm sure it will be a tough game, but if we go there and compete like we did on Tuesday night against Morecambe, and like we have been doing in recent weeks, then hopefully we can pick up the points."

Blues boss, Simon Davies, mirrored Partridge's thoughts about City's task at Saltergate.

Davies said: "It will be a tough game against Chesterfield. I feel they are in a false league position after doing well last season and only just missing out on the play-offs.

"But if we can play as well as we did during the second half against Morecambe on Tuesday night I feel we can be a match for anybody.

"I know Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson watched us on Tuesday night and he will have noticed that if he allows us time to play, and if we start to win the second balls in midfield, then his team will have a tough game on their hands.

"I think we've got to be aware of the threat posed by their top striker Jack Lester, but Jamie Ward is another player who can cause us problems.

"Jamie plays in the little hole off Lester and I feel he is a fantastic player at our level.

"Chesterfield have also signed Darren Currie who is a bit hit and miss, but when he's on form he's as good as anyone in the league.

"They have got players that we need to be aware of, but so have we, so it should be a good game."
