SIMON DAVIES today revealed he was happy to enter the concluding stages of the season with his current squad.
The Chester City boss confirmed there was no need to recall striker Simon Yeo or midfielder Dean Bennett from their loan spells at Bury and Kidderminster Harriers respectively ahead of tomorrow's league match against promotion-chasing Stockport County, at the Deva Stadium, (3pm kick-off).

City are currently 11 points above the relegation places with just six games remaining.

Davies said: "We are what we are in terms of numbers and to be quite honest there's more than enough in our dressing room to keep us in this league and finish as high as possible.

"Our two goals are getting enough points for safety, and then finishing as high as we can.

"I know it's a little bit of a cautious time, but we're not worried in any way because we know what we've got in the dressing room.

"If they go about their jobs like they have done in our last two games we'll be fine."

He added: "I know there have been inquiries for Kevin Ellison, but nothing has happened at this moment.

"And I don't intend to recall any players back to Chester because we're happy with what we've got and I believe it's more than enough to keep us in this league.

"We're not worried in any way about the squad we've got. It's the same squad that were playing so well at the start of the season and I've got a lot of belief in them, so why would I want to change anything?"

Davies saw his side claim three points out of a possible six from the Easter programme, with a 2-1 home win against Darlington, and a 1-0 defeat at Peterborough United.

He said: "I'm expecting Stockport to be similar to Darlington.

"Both are high-flying teams, and Stockport will like to play football which might suit us like it did when we beat Darlington 2-1.

"If we can perform anywhere near the way we did against Darlington we should pick up the points.

"It has been encouraging to see us creating chances during our last few games. It would have been easy to have thrown the towel in during the second half against Darlington, but we didn't and the lads showed real character to dig in and get the points."

Davies admitted that striker Chris Holroyd might struggle to win his battle to recover from an achilles injury, but he was hoping that centre half Paul Butler would be available for selection.

He said: "Chris Holroyd might not make it, and Paul Butler was only ever going to play one of our two Easter fixtures.

"We'll take a look at Kevin Ellison and Tony Grant and see what we have for the weekend, but if the squad can continue to produce their workrate and show their togetherness I think we'll be okay.

"We were a little bit more cautious in the way we set up against Peterborough with a 4-5-1, but we knew we were playing against a top side in our division, and we knew we'd have to ride our luck a little bit at times, which we did, and then create a few opportunities which we did.

"We could have easily nicked a point at the end after Richie Partridge and John Murphy had chances, and even Paul Linwood had half a chance.
"We don't need to talk about Richie Partridge's qualities because we all know he's a top player at this level.

"We will profit every time we can get him out onto the field. He had only been training a couple of days before the Darlington match, so he was only going to play for 60 or 70 minutes, but he nearly played 90 minutes at Peterborough, so we know he's a real threat when he gets his match fitness back."
