Chester's Simon Davies looking for a striker
BLUES boss Simon Davies today admitted he was interested in signing a goalscorer, but distanced himself from interest in Wrexham striker Michael Proctor.
He added: "I'd be interested in a goalscorer, but I'm not so much heading that way (Proctor).
"I'm aware that he (Michael Proctor) does score goals, so he would be one in the mix, but until I sit down with Bob Gray (Managing director) I'm not going to name names.
"I've got a few players in mind, but until I know what I can do it's difficult to say any more."
Proctor scored twice for Wrexham against Chester in the derby match at The Racecourse earlier this season which finished in a 2-2 draw, and he also grabbed a goal in Wrexham's 2-0 win against Chester at the Deva Stadium.
The Reds' leading goalscorer has been made available for a transfer from Wrexham after scoring 12 goals this season.
Davies praised City striker John Murphy when he was quizzed about the need to sign a proven goalscorer in time for next season, adding: "I think the most consistent player in the time I've been in charge at Chester has been John Murphy.
"The way he has gone about his game and come to the fore, and helped the young lads out.
"Paul McManus has done quite well, but that's probably because of the performances of John Murphy.
"Yes we do need a goalscorer, but you can't take away what big John has been about during the last couple of months and without him we probably wouldn't be in this division."
Davies confirmed that Kevin Ellison would miss tomorrow's home match against Macclesfield with a thigh injury, and that Kevin Roberts may be rested, but he was hoping that striker Chris Holroyd would be fit to return.
