Chairman hoping Chester can priduced a giant-killing
CHESTER CITY are aiming to be stars of the small screen.
Blues' club owner Stephen Vaughan has revealed that City's Carling Cup first round home tie against Leeds United will be televised live by Sky Sports on Tuesday, August 12, (7.45pm kick-off).
And Vaughan is hoping his club can produce a giant-killing act after pocketing a £50,000 television cash windfall from the Deva Stadium clash.
He said: "There is a lot of kudos in the tie itself, but it's nice to be rewarded with a £50,000 cash windfall so early in the season.
"The tie will provide our club with an opportunity to demonstrate how well they can play against a team that just missed out on promotion to the Championship after reaching the play-offs.
"The Carling Cup draw has been kind to us in the last few years after trips to Sunderland, Wolves, Leeds United, and a home tie against Nottingham Forest last season.
"And it's great news that we have continued that same sequence by drawing Leeds United," added Vaughan who also confirmed that the tie would be all ticket.
Club secretary, Tony Allan, also admitted he was looking forward to the clash at the Deva Stadium.
He said: "Leeds United are still a massive name in the game of football. "It will be tremendous to have them playing here at the Deva Stadium.
"And it's a big financial boost to have Sky Television agree to televise the tie, especially with the game being played so early in the season."
Vaughan provided a positive reaction to Chester's list of league fixtures which were released yesterday.
He said: "I think it will be good to get the away trip to Dagenham and Redbridge out of the way on the opening day of the season.
"And I think the fixtures have treated us favourably as far as Christmas and New Year is concerned because we have two home games against Accrington Stanley (Boxing Day) and Luton Town (January 3), and we are away at Macclesfield on December 28.
"I hope we can make a good start to the season again, like we did last season, but I want to see us maintain that form and show some consistency so we can challenge for a play-off place."
Vaughan revealed that he was still waiting to hear from midfield duo Anthony Barry and Eddie Johnson after they had both been offered two-year contracts by Chester.
Barry played regularly last season for Yeovil Town in League One, while Chester-born Johnson has been released by Bradford City.
Meanwhile, former Blues striker Steve Brodie has joined Buxton from Witton Albion in the Unibond League Premier Division.
The 35-year-old, who started his career with hometown club Sunderland, has played for Doncaster, Scarborough, Swansea, Chester City, Nuneaton Borough, Forest Green Rovers, Leigh RMI, Droylsden and Stalybridge Celtic.
