PAUL SIMPSON has the luxury of being able to plan for life in League Two next season.
The Shrewsbury Town boss is hoping to see his side produce a victory against Chester at the New Meadow tomorrow as his squad attempt to secure places in next season's team.

Simpson is insisting on his side pocketing three points from tomorrow's match and that they realise the importance of the derby occasion for their fans.

Simpson has said that he wants to have a clear-out at the club in the summer.

"Obviously I can't name them publicly, but there are a percentage of those on contract I want to move on.

"The extra revenue generated by the new stadium means we could afford to buy in experienced players from League One and possibly even the Championship."

"I've already approached possible replacements."

Simpson also said that despite having released front-man Dave Hibbert as a youngster when he was at Preston he believes the striker can deliver goals at his current level.

"When I was appointed, Dave must have thought 'oh no, here we go again'.

"But I've talked to him and told him his Preston days were a bit too early for him and I think he can definitely score goals in League Two."

Simpson was disappointed to see his side suffer a 3-1 defeat against Mansfield at Field Mill last weekend after Shrewsbury had gone 1-0 up, and said: "Credit to Mansfield they stuck at it, they were determined and battled.

"I learnt a lot more about my players, most of it disappointing."

Simpson said they were simply not good enough: "What I've seen there, over that 90 minutes is probably the reason why we've had to scrap around at the bottom of the table.

"We've let Mansfield off the hook, we can''t afford to do it to Chester.

"I want three points on Saturday and the players have to want it because it's a local derby and the match also means so much to our fans.

"We have to finish the season properly.

"It's a difficult situation for Chester in the position they are in, but nobody would have felt sorry for us in that position, so we can't afford to feel sorry for them."

Simpson will be without defender Kelvin Langmead who has been sidelined with a knee injury, but centre back Graham Lee has returned to Doncaster Rovers from his loan spell at Shrewsbury.

The Shrews boss will name Scott Beavan as his keeper who is currently on loan from Wycombe after first choice keeper Glyn Garner had been sidelined due to injury.

Beavan has previously played for Huddersfield, MK Dons, Kidderminster, Tamworth, and Woking.

Shrews defence will comprise Ben Herd, Darren Kempson, Colin Murdock, and Marc Tierney.

Watford-born Herd was signed by ex-Shrews boss Gary Peters and has made the right back position his own.

Kempson, who joined Shrewsbury from Bury at the start of the season, is expected to play in place of Graham Lee who has returned to Doncaster Rovers after a loan spell at the Shrews.

Kempson had previously played for Crewe Alexandra, and Morecambe, and having had loan spells at Bury and Accrington Stanley.

Northern Ireland-born Murdock includes Crewe, Preston North End, Hibernian, and Rotherham United among his former clubs.

And Tierney, who started his league career at Oldham Athletic in 2003, played for Carlisle United in the 2004-05 season before returning to Oldham and then joining Shrewsbury at the start of the 2006-07 season.

Shrewsbury midfield is likely to feature former Chester City threesome Ben Davies, Darren Moss and Kevin McIntyre, and Steven Leslie.

Davies needs no introduction to Blues fans having played for Chester between 2002-06 and helped the club win promotion back to the Football League.

He started his career at Kidderminster Harriers in 1999 and is currently battling to be fit after having treatment on a back spasm injury.

Welsh-born Moss has played for his country at youth and under 21 level and signed for Shrewsbury from Chester on a free transfer in July 2001.

McIntyre celebrated success with Chester when they won promotion from the Conference to the Football League.

The Liverpool-born central midfielder started his career at Tranmere Rovers before joining Doncaster, and then Chester in 2002.

McIntyre signed for Macclesfield Town in 2004 and is currently experiencing his first season with the Shrews.

Leslie will play on the left wing. He is playing in his third season for Shrewsbury.

Dave Hibbert will partner James Constable in Shrews' front line.

Constable warmed up for tomorrow's derby clash by scoring two goals for Shrewsbury reserves in midweek.

He started his career at non-league Chippenham Town before joining Walsall in 2005, then joined Kidderminster Harriers where he scored 11 goals in 24 starts.

Constable has scored four goals in 12 appearances so far this term.

THE ONE TO WATCH: Dave Hibbert

Shrewsbury Town targetman Dave Hibbert will be determined to atone for his missed penalty at Mansfield Town last weekend.

Hibbert, 22, has scored 12 goals so far this season and will be hoping to increase his goal tally in tomorrow's derby encounter.

He started his career at Port Vale where he progressed through the ranks before leaving to join Preston North End.

A loan spell at Rotherham United followed, but he struggled to make an impact at Millmoor, scoring just twice in 22 appearances.

Hibbert made four appearances on loan at Bradford City last season
before joining Shrewsbury in June.
