A NEW supermarket on the outskirts of Chester city centre is set to create around 250 jobs it has been revealed today.
The new store on Sealand Road, on the corner of Bumpers Lane will be created on the former KwikSave site.

Construction on the Tesco store is now under way and it is expected to open its doors in August.

The supermarket will become the city's second Tesco and will offer consumers an alternative to the Frodsham Street location, itself one of the most popular stores in the country for basket shoppers.

Tesco spokesman Neil Skitt confirmed the new shop would create about 250 jobs and would be in addition to the existing city centre supermarket.

Tesco is the UK's largest supermarket chain and recently refurbished its Broughton Shopping Park store.

College Ward Cllr David Mead said: "I don't know how many jobs were lost when KwikSave closed but the creation of more jobs is good.

"I have no objections because it's not a huge shop and there aren't any similar shops in the area.

"It's better for the site to be used than not be used. I'm happy about it and I haven't had any complaints from the residents in the area."
